The panic attacks and depression I suffered from forced to me recognise that the existence that I had been living was not conducive to a fulfilling and healthy life. And it was with that realisation that I became committed to transforming my health and wellbeing as well as to discovering my life purpose. During that period of transformation, I conducted a great deal of soul searching. I called myself out on the beliefs, behaviours and excuses that I had adopted, which had kept me limited. And, gradually with much introspection and time, I was able to build a rewarding, fulfilling, healthy life. My coaching is founded and built upon the actions that I took as well as the research, knowledge, insights and skills that I obtained during my own transformation. HOW DOES COACHING DIFFER FROM THERAPY?The emphasis on Coaching is to assist clients in determining what is standing in the way of setting and achieving their prospective goals. And, it’s intended is to encourage individuals to grow and do more than they think they can.
Psychotherapy typically focuses on understanding and healing from the past. Furthermore, Psychotherapists diagnose illnesses where required and are medically trained to treat illnesses clinically. Coaches are not medically trained to diagnose or treat conditions or illnesses. In my coaching practice, I work with clients to empower them to find personal or professional direction. During bi-weekly coaching sessions, I work with clients to unlock any fears, self-doubt and/or limiting beliefs which prevent them from pursuing their dreams and goals. I work with clients to identify and align their objectives, create focus, clear through the clutter, and guide them to explore and create a vision for realising their dreams. Should it become apparent that a client or prospective client would be better served with psychotherapy, I will advise accordingly. This is a crucial point to note when looking for a coach – a good coach should be comfortable and willing to admit when they are not qualified to assist. |
